Age for karate? So we have a membership to the local Y and DD does swimming there, and sometimes some other classes. I was looking at what they have and saw they have karate now for the 3-6 crowd. Now I've always wanted to get DD to at least try karate. I did it briefly when I was a kid and it was a great experience. But do you think it's... prudent? To offer karate to kids that young? I mean, DD (nearly 4) is still working on understanding boundaries, and play vs. real life, and when is pretending going too far, and so on. I dunno, maybe not? I guess karate is about self-discipline, respect, things that young kids are working on anyways, so maybe it fits? And of course all kids are different so they are probably ready at different times. Regardless I'm not enrolling DD until I feel she's ready, of course. Just looking for some thoughts on the whole issue.

Re: Age for karate?
My daughter tried karate at that age and didn't really like it. I wish I had tried it when she was a little older because she had a really hard time with the discipline aspect at that age, and now is totally turned off by it. We're thinking about having my six year old start in the next year or two.
