New

Hi, I'm new on this website and just wanted to introduce myself.

I'm seventeen years old and a few weeks ago my boyfriend of almost two years and I found out that I was pregnant. I haven't been to the doctor yet, or even told our parents yet. My boyfriend wants to wait until he gets a better job to tell them. I know this makes sense, because once we tell them we'll be able to say that we have a plan and will be able to do this on our own, but I can't stop worrying that I haven't seen a doctor yet. According to my mental math I'm about 13 weeks. This is my first pregnancy so I'm not sure what to expect. I've been scouring the internet for information, but it seems the more I read the more I freak myself out. Apart from the worry, though I have to admit I am very excited to be a parent. I feel very blessed to have the boyfriend that I do. Before we found out we always talked about living together and getting married anyway. The way we see it is . . . we just started a little earlier than we planned.

Well, that's my situation in a nut shell. I'm really excited to get to know everyone. And I must warn you, I'll probably be posting a TON of questions. Haha, just kidding.

Re: New

Welcome to girl-mom! In terms of seeing a doctor, the only things that would make it important for me to see a health care professional in my first trimester would be if I didn't know when my last menstrual period was (the early you have an ultrasound for dating, the more accurate it is) or if I wanted the CVS test (a test that tests for some genetic abnormalities). These were not important to me. I'm pregnant with my second child and didn't start prenatal care until I was 18 weeks. Anyway, welcome. I hope to see you on the boards.

Re: New

Welcome! Your parents shouldn't need to know in order for you to see someone. You can go to a walk in clinic or something and at least get your vitals checked and get some blood work to make sure your hormone levels are growing appropriately and that your iron levels are good.

Welcome to the boards! I was 17 when I found out I was pregnant too, I was dreading telling my parents but in the end I'm glad I didn't wait for a long time or they found out on their own or something. Anyway, now my son is 5 and in kindergarten and I'm 23. Time flies! Well its nice to meet you see you around the boards :]

Re: New

Welcome to GM! I'm Alicia, 26 year old mom of 3. I was 16 when I got pregnant for the first time. I kept putting off telling my parents (I was terrified) and a friend ended up telling them because he was worried that I wasn't getting prenatal care. Is it possible for you to see a doctor without telling your parents?
