The mayor called me...When I was in high school I knew the major of my town really well through Rotary Interact, however I was surprised when she called me up last week. She wanted to meet with me and so I went to her office with Devin in tow immediately. She asked me to run for a town council seat! She said she thought of me because she thinks they need a young person and specifically a female. Everyone on the council is a retired man. My town is pretty small which means everyone knows who babydaddy is and slightly conservative which made my first question be 'uhhh what about the whole unmarried single mom part?" Her answer: 'Missiy it's 2009!' haha She seems to think that that fact will not have any effect on people and better yet that people will be able to relate to me better. I decided that I am going to campaign for that seat!! I am worried about how much work campaigning will be... I hate being away from Devin for school or work as it is I really don't need anything on top of that... However, if I get the seat it's only one meeting a month after Devin's bedtime and it pays 3000 bucks a year! It sounds absolutely perfect

I just noticed that this was under announcements. Usually the announcements forum is just for announcements about the site, and only mods are able to post there. Maybe a mod could move this post to the appropriate forum (I'd think Your Stories?) and check up on why everybody has posting privileges here?
And again, Missiy, congrats! That's a really exciting opportunity for you!

The Caucus is on Wednesday! I just made a ton of snickerdoodles, haha. Anyway, I will let you know how I make out at the Caucus. It is assumed by the commitee that no one else is planning on running, so it just a legal thing, really. Hopefully, lots of friends and family will show up for support!
Exciting, good luck!

Re: The mayor called me...
election day has come and passed... I lost along with my running mates. However, I did get 344 votes... it is awesome to see that that many people wanted me on the town council even though in the context of thigns it was only 15%. Anyway, I am glad for the experience. Only a handful of people made comments like, "you don't look old enough to be running."
My son came campaigning door to door with us most of the time. He did great! He even schmoozed a few people with his 'hi's and 'bye's. I am really glad that he was content with sitting in his stroller for so long and I was able to bring him with me.
Thank you all for the support. I appreciate it.
