I wish I had a yard to garden If I ever get the chance to move from this shitty apartment, I am so going to grow fruits, veggies and herbs.

We don't have a yard, either. I'm trying to get a plot through the park district. I also grow plants in containers. I'm also planting things at my grandmother's yard.

We don't have a yard either anymore. I've always done a garden so its an adjustment to not be able too! I love growing tomatos, carrots, potatos, strawberries, lettuce, cucumbers. Mmmm nothing is better than fresh grown fruits and veggies. Especially since we're in a small town and don't have a lot of shopping options.

I've been giving it thought, but no real plans yet other than we'll do tomatoes in containers, like last year. We have a huge, flat, sunny yard (we just moved) so I need to really make good use of it. It's got to be pretty fertile, since we're on a farm and I was told they till and fertilize the field behind our house. My mom just told Sophia on the phone that she bought her some organic pepper and carrot seeds, so we'll be planting those. One problem we'll need to plan for is there is a huge amount of deer around here- we counted 19 outside the house last week. I'll keep you updated!

I always want to start a garden, but I can never stick to doing it and it ends up getting ruined halfway through the summer. I do have a cactus which I have had for almost a year, which is the longest I have ever had a plant! Although I guess that really does not count for a garden.

Veggies and Herbs.... I have a tendency to overdue it though... so this year I'm growing things that are less fussy...

I really want to garden this year and I think I'll have time to get started this summer, but I don't really have time yet to get seeds started and all that. Where I'm living now, we have a small back yard, and our landlords (who live above us) said they wouldn't mind at all if I set up a garden in it. In the past few days, I've been looking at seed catalogues and fantasizing about all the gardening I would do if I had time. I'd grow herbs, veggies, and fruits. I'm just worried that I shouldn't start it unless I'm sure I'm going to have the time to keep it up, especially considering that it won't be my yard that I'm tearing up to make it.

There's also a community garden at my university, with a small, fenced in playground right next to it, so I'm thinking that might be a possibility too if I can get a plot.

I bit off way more than I could chew last year and planted all kinds of stuff, and then didn't have the time/energy to weed and wash them, and some of them got eaten up pretty badly. This year I'm going to stick with peas, and maybe add one or two other things things in there and see how that goes. LOL! I kinda want to try strawberries though. I guess we'll see how that goes.

I'm trying strawberries for the first time this year. I'm so excited about that. Yeah, I had a lot of trouble with caterpillars eating my stuff last year. And I messed around with my garden EVERY DAY last year, so I don't know. I'm just not going to plant as many greens this year.

I got four strawberries off three plants last year. It was exciting!

We had wild strawberries all over our yard. It was amazing and they were sooo good! I think I want to just get a little planter and put it out on our porch. I just want to plant tomatos. There is nothing better than fresh tomatos to me! Anyone know what its like to do a couple of plant like that in an apt? Is it more work or do you have to do anythign differant than you wold in a yard?

Strawberries are nice because they are pretty sturdy, but still delicious. Great if you're a starting gardener. I love fresh tomatoes too! Here's what I'm planning to plant in my garden plot this year: Herbs (basil, rosemary, lavender, chives, etc.) I will grow mint in a separate pot b/c it can kind of take over. Tomatoes Carrots Lettuce/Salad greens (I'm going to do a mix of different kinds) Strawberries I would LOVE to do broccoli too, but it takes up more space than I want to use for it, and it doesn't get along very well with some of the other veggies I'm planting, so I probably won't.

boigrrlwonder - I remember you writing about your caterpillars last year. Can I ask, how deliberate were you in planning your garden? Sometimes if you plant things that caterpillars don't like next to things they do like, it can help keep them away. I sympathize, though. When I was working on an organic farm a couple of years ago, we lost nearly an entire crop of broccoli sprouts because caterpillars got into our greenhouse . Good luck with it this time around!

Sounds like strawberries are easier to grow than I thought! Right on! Maybe that various by region, but w/e, I'll give it a shot. I love gardening in theory, but in practice, I have a slight laziness issue. (Which explains why I'm here now and not working on an assignment. Oops.)
