Storkcraft Crib Bracket Recall (May 2000 to November cribs)This has been on the news. You can google it and get a bunch of articles. Here's the first one: http://blogs.wsj.com/juggle/2009/01/14/recall-alert-more-than-one-million-stork-crab-cribs-recalled/ Quote:
The Stork Craft recall has resulted in one toddler injury and 11 incidents of malfunctioning hardware, regulators say. The metal brackets used to support the mattress and mattress board can crack and break, which can cause the mattress to collapse and create a dangerous gap between it and the crib rails. A child can become entrapped and suffocate in that gap. About half of the cribs being recalled are in the U.S. and were sold starting in May of 2000 at major retailers including J.C. Penney, Kmart and Wal-Mart Stores Inc “This is another important recall where the message to parents is to find another safe sleeping environment tonight until you get a replacement kit” to repair the crib, a spokesman for the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the U.S. agency in charge of regulating cribs, told my Journal colleague Melanie Trottman. Recent problems with U.S. crib safety have spurred the recalls of more than three and a half million units in the U.S. since September 2007, many prompted by reports of babies being strangled or injured in cribs with malfunctioning or missing hardware. Stork Craft said it made a design change last month toward heavier brackets. And Storkcrafts actual site. I didn't wait all day on the phone with them, I just hit them up with an email(recalls@storkcraft.com) asking for the new brackets and gave them my shipping address. Then they sent me a confirmation email a few days later.
