My post disappeared!

So I was going to reply in the "Thinking about College?" thread, but when I hit the reply button, I was told that the computer couldn't find that content. Odd. I looked at the forums/recent posts and I couldn't find it either. Any ideas about what might have happened?

Here's (copy and pasted) what I was going to write:

Will you be entering as a transfer student? Do you know what school/department you're interested in yet?

I'll be applying to the Nursing program as a transfer student. I still have to go talk to a counselor at my cc to make sure I am taking the correct pre-reqs and to see if I'll have enough credits to apply for next years fall admission.
I've done some research on the website, but any info you can give me would be greatly appreciated. I'm not sure yet what type of living arrangements I'll need. I'm not married, so my boyfriend might stay here in Houston and I'll move with the kids. I do know that I'll need daycare, though.
Yeah, the only gm's I know that also went there are Julie and Charlie and I was planning on asking them both for any advice (I keep in touch with Julie on lj).

That's awesome that you're going into the nursing program! I bet it will be really great for you! I applied as a transfer student too, but to the college of liberal arts. UT is a big enough school that admissions seems to be primarily based on GPA - as a transfer student, I didn't need to get any recommendations or anything like that. Have you looked at the Texas Common Ap. yet? (https://www.applytexas.org/adappc/gen/c_start.WBX).

UT daycare is amazing, but the waitlist is really really long. If you want to use their daycare, get on the waitlist now, as in, even before you've applied. There are a lot of other really good daycares in the city, though, and I'd be happy to give you advice (I've visited at least a dozen of them) depending on where you will be living. I lived in the student family housing at UT and really liked it there. It's inexpensive, on shuttle routes, and provides a nice community. Will you just need easy access to UT, or is there another part of the city you'll want to live close to?

whenever i was in college before it was a private college called South College of Asheville (i'm in north carolina) and i found out i was pregnant with my lil girl so i had to drop out because there was no way possible for me to continue with my classes while being pregnant and then having to be on maternity leave after that. but she is 15 months old now and i'm wanting to start back so if anyone has any experience with this college or anything at all really it would help me out big time... my biggest concern is that if i go back to school that mine and my daughter's relationship that we have built for the past year and a half will dwindle and i really dont want that to happen... so yeah like i said any information or experiences that anyone has to offer would be very helpful for me

I went back to school when my son was a little over a year. I don't feel it had an adverse affect on our relationship at all. There was an adjustment period, certainly, but overall I think that having some scheduled time away from me has been good for him and that having some time to be a grown up has allowed me to be a better mother when I am with him. I am definitely grateful for the time I spent with him full time when he was tiny, but I'm really glad I chose to go to college too. I don't have any experience with South College of Asheville, nor do I recall anybody else mentioning it on the boards, but I'll let you know if I do hear anything. Even if nobody has experience with that college in particular, though, I bet we can be a really great resource as you go through the admissions process. Good luck!

I think that is a great idea! It would be cool to have something about helping fill out financial aid forms, because I know that can be confusing and there are also grants specifically for student parents that I think a lot of people don't know about.
One thing though, about putting admissions essays online, I can think of some problems that could arise as far as plagarism goes, as in the college could think someone plagarized if they did a search and found the paper here, or someone else actually could plagarize. But still, if we could think of a way to do it privately, that would be awesome.

That's a good point about admissions essays. Maybe we could have a thread where people either replied with "I can give admissions essay feedback! PM me your essay if you want my help!" or "I have an admissions essay that I want feedback on! PM me if you want to help me!" We could get two lists going, so that we could easily match up people who want feedback with people who are happy to give it.

I've only been to Austin once and only to the UT campus, so I think it would be easier if I just lived in student housing. Is there a waitlist for that? Thanks for the advice about applying for daycare now. Smile
