I am an old girlmom who hung out on the boards a long time ago. Having Alli and some of the earlier folks around made it possible for me to survive teen mamahood.
Anyway, all of these years later I am back to ask for a different kind of help. I am finishing a BA in Social Justice (!) As my final project, I am trying to create a documentary about teen motherhood. I want all of the stories to reflect a girlmom perspective - really empowering and positive - defying all of the shitty stereotypes. (I posted about the details of it over here: http://www.girl-mom.com/node/19842)I am looking for stories and the chance to audio interview girlmoms (in person in Seattle or over the phone anywhere). I am also hopeing to gather corasponding photographs (sent via attachment through email?)
The project is due in 7 weeks and I am FREAKING OUT! I have not been able to find teen moms to interview who aren't self-haters or who haven't bought into the perspective that they are nothing more than statistics and losers.
Anyway, if you would be willing to let me interview you over the phone or in person, if you would be willing to share pictures of you and your kiddos, or if you would be willing to write a short essay (a page long) about your experience, I would be so thankful AND I would give you a copy of the DVD when it is done.
If you want an idea of what the style would be like, here is my story on youtube: http://youtube.com/watch?v=yVWF6Lrg5Ss
Thanks again mamas!
