sex and uti's

I was diagnosed with a uti on friday. I had no symptoms until all of the sudden I was peeing blood! Anyways, they tested it, said it was a uti and gave me antibiotics. I'm supposed to take them for 10 days. I'm wondering if its OK to have sex while this is being treated. I was thinking maybe not, because sometimes sex is what causes a uti in the first place with bacteria being pushed up there. The doctor didnt say anything about it though, so maybe its ok? I'm back to having no symptoms again and I've only been taking it for 2 days.

The anti-biotics are going

The anti-biotics are going to kill the bacteria in your system, good and bad alike, so having sex isn't an issue... But it may not be that comfortable to have sex!

I get UTI a whole lot!!! It

I get UTI a whole lot!!! It sucks sooo bad! You can have sex while on them but its really painful. When I get them they always give me these brown pills that turn my pee bright yellowish/orange. They numb the urinary tract so it doesn't hurt! Just make sure you pee right before or right after to prevent them.

Thanks girls. The pills they

Thanks girls. The pills they gave me are orange and they smell like cat piss. Ewwwww! Apparantly they arent the best antibiotics but they are the ones that are safest during pregnancy.

Pregnancy is a risk factor

Pregnancy is a risk factor for UTI's actually... Your immune system undergoes changes. Also, in pregnancy, UTI's are more likely to accend into the ureters and kidneys... so I'm glad that you finally had a symptom so that you could get some treatment! Smile As other preventative: *Try drinking some raw cranberry juice (Not cranberry cocktail) a couple times a week... (1/2 an oz. in water is pretty bareable... *Vitamin C, up to 4000 mg, taken sporadically throughout the day is another good one. (Both of those acidify the urine, and make the bladder 'slippery' so bacteria don't stick as well.) *Cut back on any sugar you can live without, it helps bacteria breed in the bladder. *Take your prenatal vitamins before noon, morning is preferable but that bothers some women. Vitamins and minerals that sit in the bladder all night at high concentrations can irritate, leading to an easier time for present bacteria. And as MamaTessa said, make sure to pee before and after sex. Another thing to think about is sexual position... (This one is new to me! It was in my latest textbook!) From behind positions, while standing, allow bacteria that are in your natural, more amundant secretions to slide forward toward the urethra, and stay there longer... Who'd have thought of that!?!?! I honestly did not think of that!!!

I started peeing blood again

I started peeing blood again today! WTF? I'm on day 5 of antibiotics and havent had any blood since the first day. I dont know if I should contact my family doc, or my midwife, or nobody at all.

I would contact someone. It

I would contact someone. It could be that you are resistant to that type of antibiotic or something like that. Or it could not be a uti but something differant. One thing is I've never peed blood with UTI's but my hubby did with kidney stones.

Yeah, definatly gfet to your

Yeah, definatly gfet to your doctor, ASAP. I would be worried that it has gone to your kidneys (or it could). Probably just need a stronger anti-biotic.

I didnt end up talking to

I didnt end up talking to anyone about it. Things have been super hectic in the past few days and I seriously feel like I dont even have time to schedule myself a doctor's appointment, nevermind actually make it there. I'm working long days and my job is super busy plus we are moving so everything is just stressful right now. The blood has stopped again though...it just happened about 3 times yesterday afternoon and then not again since. I havent been having any pain though and everything I have heard about kidney issues is that it really friggin hurts. I have just been having a little soreness in my lower abdomen and back....sort feels like mild menstrual cramps. I assumed it was just my uterus getting all stretched out.

Are you positive that it's

Are you positive that it's blood in the urine... and not contamination of blood from your vagina? I'd seriously consider at least calling your careprovider Hun....
