Making Wooden Toys *priv trigger, maybe*

I know there are some pretty handy/crafty mamas on this board. I've been thinking about trying to make Teagan a toy for giftmas. I think homemade toys mean more. I was thinking about making a toddler push wagon that looks something like this:

or maybe this (though I think making something like this with a simplified design that doesn't include a dinosaur):

I looked at the library and internet to see if I could find instructions for making something similar (I don't have the visual-spatial intelligence to just figure it out without help), but I didn't see a lot of suggestions.

Anyone ever make their own wooden toys and have some advice (or even better, know where to get instructions)?[/img]

Wow, that's cool! My dad used to make toys for my family for Xmas. One year he made my sisters matching bunkbeds for their dolls. I'm trying to find someone to make G a toy box. I don't have any suggestions, but if you make something you should definitely post pics for me to drool over Wink

What an awesome idea! My bf spends every weekend making duct tape weapons for my kids. It's funny, but my son won't play with anything else except his legos. Now if only he can find a way to make duct tape legos... (BTW - I wouldn't recomment duct tape toys for any child who still puts toys in their mouth)

SO and I make wooden toys. Animals figures and pull toys and stuff. He is a carpenter, though, so we have tools. And I like to know exactly how/what A's toys are made of. I wouldn't know how to make something so elaborate, though. There might be instructions on the internet, but you'd probably have to pay for them. I'll check for you...That push along toy will require some power tools, though.

I made DD#1 a wooden playhouse but not toys. The playhouse still isn't finished (painting and sticking the roof together needs to be finished). I will see if I can find any wooden toys making patterns.

I have access to power tools since my partner is in a trades program apprenticeship. Thanks for the link. I'll check that out.
