Books about alternative families

Anyone have any suggestions? So far, all I've found have been books for kids who's parents are GLBT - which is fine, but I don't want G going to daycare and saying he has two mommies (my sister and I live together, lol).

Right now he doesn't have a daddy, at all, and he's starting to use the word so I'm looking for books along the lines of "there's Joey, he lives with his mama and grandpa. There's Mary, she lives with her two daddies. There's Peter, he lives with his aunt and uncle."

Also I'd love to find books that describe families - as in, "a family is a group of people who love each other and want to help each other" or something.

Thanks

Books about alternative families

i used to work at a toy store and i found this book there - it wasn't necessarily about " alternative families" it was about This little girl and her mom and dad ( were straight up punks with septum piercings and tattoos) adopted a puppy from the humane society. I can't remember what it was called. But it was refreshing to see something outside the box. Like I'm SO sick of those books where dad is sitting with his coffee reading the newspaper and mom is vaccuming or whatever.

I've found a LOT of really awesome books about different families, my daughter has one called "When my parents forgot how to be friends" that she likes. The parents in the book used to live together, and we did not, ut it has a lot of good points and encourages talking about how the child feels. I found one about a single mom & her daughter at the library a few weeks ago & we LOVED it, I'll have to go find the name.

"Heather Has Two Mommies" is an excellent book. It is about a girl with two mommies, but she goes to school and in her class everyone talks about their different kinds of families. It's really good. I think one kid lives with their mom and grandpa, one has two dads, one just a dad, etc.

The Family Book is awesome. We got it and my kid loves it because the pictures are so so bright and cool. We also have Heather Has Two Mommies - it's really good, because it is about all different families, like the above poster said. Every kid in her class has a different kind of family and they talk about how all kinds of families are great. We read "Let's Get a Pup" said Kate and it's really cute. I have a lot of tattoos, so I loved the way the parents were illustrated. I dunno if we have it though... I'm trying to remember where we read it. I'll have to check her books, I guess.
