Where to get help

Everything set aside, something else needs to be addressed. Girl-mom can only do so much. Girl-mom is wonderful, but is only the internet. Where do we get help when we are in crisis. We need to set up some type of database here. I know we have a sticky for online recources, but we need more.

What happened here will happen again. We're all devoted to this community and to helping one another, so if we all work together we can make this better.

Everyone needs to know, if you are in a crisis sittuation, girl-mom is not always the best place to search for answers. We're all in different time zones. We're all on different schedules. We're all busy. So where do you turn when you need help and answers NOW. Come here for support. Come here for friends, and for answers. But when you need answers right away, seek help elsewhere ALONG with girl-mom. Girl-mom cannot be your only platform.

Or else we need to design some type of 24/hour phone line. But thats not really feasable from a non-profit website.

I am looking for volunteers here. I need atleast one person to represent your province/territory/state/country. We need to compile local recources near globally for our users. We need info posted for where to go, and who to call in your area when you need help. Once your information is collected, we need to start threads in a designated forum called "Help in Saskatchewan" that will be stickied.

So I'm volunteering to do my province, Saskatchewan in Canada. Who else?

take care girls <3

Where to get help

by the way mods, we can edit our posts in this forum too. I thought I would let you know so that there is no confusion or problems brought up later on.

Where to get help

I think someone in the US should do the whole country for generalized things (suicide hotline, rape crisis that sort of thing) as well as things specific to places where we have lots of members (ie TX, MN, CA). I can do some of it tonight when I get DS to sleep. jube this is an amazing idea.

Where to get help

Alright well I'm going to change the editing thing for now since we aren't allowed to edit in any other forum. But Jube, I was totally thinking about this earlier. We need to find resources in at least each state or something for abuse, suicide, rape etc...is that what you mean? I'm not very resourceful but if there are no other mamas in my area willing to do it then I'll definitely find out for us.

Where to get help

Hey, let me know if you can still edit, because it's supposed to be disabled now. Thanks.

Where to get help

I definately think this is a good idea. I just want to point out that a lot of mamas on here who are going through these things might be intentionally avoiding reaching out to a social service or even non-profit organization for fear of CPS involvement, or just their family and friends finding out. For some mamas, GM really is the safest space to ask for help for these kinds of things.

Weather or not the person chooses to follow through with these recources will be up to them.

Where to get help

I have some free time today so i can help with this.

Also, what about some kind of phone buddie thing. If they don't want to call someone who might call CPS. What about calling one of us? They don't even have to say who they are. No one will be able to tell from the phone number. Sometimes it helps to even just talk to someone, even if they don't have anything to say. Ya know?? maybe its a stupid idea?? :?

Where to get help

we did that awhile ago. BCPR set it up. we can do it again though. i will compile the list if thats okay. so if you want to be added to the list just like last time PM me your info (best time to be reached and where you are, for time zone ideas, ie 9am here is 6am in CA). i will keep the list and when it is done we can PM it to whoever asks for it. (so even if you never thought you'd need it but would like you can have it just in case...) sound okay?

Where to get help

I don't feel up to creating a resource list for the whole state, but I would be willing to do it for the Chicagoland area, if that's okay with you all.

Where to get help

Maybe this one could be made a sticky, b/c it's kind of an overview of this whole forum and why it was created?

Where to get help

Well, I'll help out for Scotland but I think I'm the only one here. I guess I could cover the rest of the UK too.

Where to get help

I would do my province, Manitoba, but I think there are only 3 of us from here....I know there's a crisis center in Beausejour...

Where to get help

I think its important even if there aren't many members from where we live, because who knows if someone needs help who isn't on the boards. Smile

It would be great if you still went ahead and did it. There are probebly lots of people from Manitoba who lurk on the boards. I am still going to do Saskatchewan. I've had a disturbance in the home that is preventing me from getting some major work done. If any of the other Saskatchewan mamas want to help me out, that would be great, but if not I'll get it done in due time. Candy-eye has volunteered to do Alberta.

Okay. I'm working on it right now while the kiddo is asleep. (FINALLY!!!) Laughing out loud
